Overview of the Recruiting Timeline (2024–2025 Reality)
Investment banking recruiting now happens 18–20 months in advance. For many students, the process begins well before junior year — and in some cases, offers are secured by spring of sophomore year.
The key is understanding when to explore, when to prepare, and when recruiting actually starts. This page reflects how the process works today, not how it used to work.
Quick-Glance: What to Focus On
If you feel overwhelmed, use this as your high-level roadmap. You do not need to do everything at once — consistency matters most.
Summer After Freshman Year
- Explore finance careers and decide if IB is a real interest.
- Talk to older students to understand modern recruiting.
- Start a resume draft and identify skill gaps.
Sophomore Fall
- Get your resume networking-ready.
- Begin consistent networking.
- Learn accounting + valuation fundamentals.
December – January
- Applications open.
- First rounds may begin.
- Daily technical + behavioral prep.
January – April
- Interviews and superdays.
- Offers extended.
- Recruiting largely wraps up.
By junior year, many students already have offers. Starting early is no longer optional — it is the norm.
